Mechanical Shearing Probe on a Human Hair
This image shows a mechanical shearing probe
placed on a single human hair. A macroscopic probe (blurry object on the
left) moves the microprobe base, which is not visible under the macroscopic
probe. The top arm of the microprobe couples
force to the shearing plate which is placed on the hair. The bottom arm of
the shearing probe has detached from the base. Careful inspection will
show that the shearing plate, and along with it the entire hair, moves
slightly as the probe base is moved.
