Microscopic diffusion
This image shows one example of a measurement that our microfluidics
platform can provide for students.
In this demonstration, two fluids are brought together in a microchannel.
At this scale, viscosity dominates the fluid interaction, so the fluids do
not undergo significant mixing when they meet.
Instead, they mix primarily by diffusion.
By measuring the gradient in brightness from one fluid to the other, the
rate at which diffusion occurs can be quantified and can be compared to
theoretical predictions.
